Seasons & Best Times to Hunt

September – This is when the season first comes in and when the deer are arguably the most vulnerable. We have a lot of big enough feeders where We Are one of the only Outfitters that have the resources to leave feeders run the entire summer. This has the sick of deer with their guard down and a lot of times a lot easier to be taken.

October – What starts to kick in. Dear or bugling and chasing Hines all through the marsh. This is arguably one of the better times to get a nice stag. This also presents the hunter to be able to take advantage of the 3-day Muzzleloader season there the third weekend of October as well as the remainder of the Hinds season only for Muzzleloader the entire last week.

November – Starts off with archery equipment until black Friday. Stags are getting tired and hungry. They will start frequenting the feeders on their own. They have ran hard and feed regularly. This leads up to rifle season which is the day after Black Friday. We recommend 5-day hunts as is very good during the first weekend and then the deer settle down and get back into normal patterns again early to midweek.

December – This concludes the two week rifle season. There’s a week in between for archery then the final two weeks is Muzzleloader season again. Weather has cooled off and some neighboring properties neglecting the feeders has the deer on the move and a really good time to hunt again.

January – First weekend is a special 3-day rifle season. Weather has cooled off and deer are hungry and on the move. The following three weeks to end the regular season is strictly archery.

Other than September this is arguably again the best time to come. Weather has cooled off the green Lush grass is that they feed on has turned brown and they are really attracted to the feeders and food sources. February. 3-day hunt here for primitive only. Can you use percussion Flintlock, Muzzleloaders as well as Recurve bows. There is no other season in and no other way to hunt making this the only game in town. Has been excellent the first few trial years. Hunting over feeders is the best method. We’ve been fortunate to have a little slow and cool weather and can sometimes kill at will. All seasons have its advantages for the enthusiastic Sika Deer Hunter to take advantage of..

What to Bring on your Hunt

Although bugs can be bad early in September they are mainly mosquitoes and are handled well by Thermacells, other than light gear and maybe a face mask is all that is necessary. The other typical bugs that you would find in the northern region are just not present. Without the thermostat can make for a pretty miserable hunt. Also to access some of our remote stands on high tides and during storm surges it is a good idea to bring a pair of chest waders or hip boots as well if you have. Almost all hunting scenarios Muck Boots or calf high will work just fine. We typically do not hunt early a.m. if guys want to bring their climbers and take advantage of some of the nearby public areas first thing will be glad to show and tell at no cost. Later in the year can really very in temperatures and rain and snow. Will need clothing accordingly. Fluorescent orange is also necessary during the rifle and black powder seasons. Recommended rifles calibers from 243 caliber up to 7mm. Typically your weapon, clothes, boots and a Thermal Cell is all that’s necessary. Anything else is just frills and keep an eye on the weather situation to make sure you’re fully prepared.
